The short version

You can play girlingo without an account. Your progress lives in your browser. You only sign in to buy Pro, and there’s no password: you use an emailed code, Google or Apple.

We don’t use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising cookies or ad identifiers. The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in. Nothing reports back to us about what you tap. Three things talk to a server: practice chats and Wingman reads, which need a written reply, and payments. Each is described below.

What stays in your browser

This is saved in your browser’s local storage on your device and isn’t sent to us:

• your progress: lessons finished, XP, level, streak, skill meters, and where you stopped in a lesson
• your Selfie Check scores and the coaching that came with them (never the photo)
• how many Wingman reads you’ve used this week
• a random identifier for this browser, used for rate limits and to know whether you’ve paid
• whether you’re a Pro subscriber, cached so the app doesn’t have to ask every time

Clearing your browser’s site data deletes all of it. Profile → Start over erases your progress immediately.

Selfie Check

Your photo is measured inside your browser and then discarded.

• it’s never uploaded
• it’s never saved
• no face template, faceprint or biometric identifier is created or stored
• it isn’t used to recognize you or to guess your age, gender or ethnicity

To do the measuring, your browser downloads a face-landmark model and its code the first time you use it, from jsDelivr and Google. Those downloads are ordinary file requests: they receive your IP address and browser details, and never your photo. Selfie Check measures lighting, framing, angle and background. It doesn’t rate attractiveness.

Wingman

Screenshots. Your screenshot is read inside your browser with on-device text recognition. The image never leaves your device and isn’t stored. The first time, your browser downloads the recognition code and English language data from jsDelivr. Only the recognized text of the messages is sent to produce a read.

Descriptions. If you describe a situation instead, that text is sent.

Practice conversations

The characters are fictional. What you type to them, and their replies, are sent so the next reply can be written. The conversation isn’t kept after it ends.

Where that text goes

Chat and Wingman text goes over an encrypted connection to our website’s server, then to a small service we run, which forwards it to OpenAI to generate the response. Our services hold the API key and stop any one person running up the bill. They don’t store your conversations, and neither do we. There’s no database anywhere in girlingo with your messages in it. For rate limiting, we also pass along the random browser identifier and your IP address. They’re used to count requests over a rolling hour and aren’t linked to you or kept longer than that.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify, which processes the ordinary technical details of each request (IP address, browser, pages requested) to serve the site and protect it from abuse. See https://www.netlify.com/privacy/.

Signing in

Sign-in is handled by Clerk. When you sign in, Clerk stores your email address (and your name, if you use Google or Apple) and keeps you signed in with a cookie. We use your account only to know whether you’ve paid. See https://clerk.com/legal/privacy.

Payments

Pro is sold through RevenueCat, which uses Stripe to take payment. We never see your card number. When you subscribe, RevenueCat and Stripe receive your payment details, the email address you enter at checkout (for receipts and managing your subscription), and your account ID, so the app can tell you’ve paid. They don’t receive your progress, photos, selfie scores or anything you’ve typed in the app.

Other people in your conversations

A screenshot contains someone else’s words. Only give Wingman conversations you’re part of, and don’t upload messages from anyone who’d object. This is also a condition of the Terms of Use.

Children

girlingo is for adults, 17 and older. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect anything from anyone under 17.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold about you or ask us to delete it. Because your progress lives in your browser, Profile → Start over or clearing site data deletes it. For payment records, email us and we’ll handle it with RevenueCat and Stripe.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
